Āu Mahi | What You Will Do

Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury invites applications for a fixed term appointment at the level of Lecturer (Teaching & Administration) within Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial, future-focused Faculty and contribute to high-quality teaching, research and service in Sport.

The appointee will play a key role in proactively developing and managing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) school and organisation placements for students as part of their course. Appointee would engage with external organisations/schools, coordinating communication between students, course coordinators, and industry partners, and ensuring projects are appropriately scoped to meet course requirements while delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate level.

• Contribute to the teaching and delivery of undergraduate courses in Sport and Health and Physical Education, with a particular focus on pedagogy, curriculum, professional practice, and learner development.
• Support student learning, engagement, wellbeing, and academic success through high-quality teaching, mentoring, advising, and pastoral care.
• Draw on contemporary knowledge of both sport and PE Curriculum , curriculum revisions, and educational practice to help students connect theory with authentic coaching / teaching and learning contexts.
• Work collaboratively across programmes and disciplines to strengthen connections between the sport and education sectors (primary, secondary and tertiary education), supporting students' development as reflective and effective practitioners.
• Foster inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments that promote equity, uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and support the success of diverse learners.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning, scholarship, and service activities that contribute to programme development, teaching excellence, and the strategic goals of the programme and wider faculty.
• Develop, coordinate, and manage Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities, including sourcing, maintaining, and strengthening partnerships with schools, community organisations, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Liaise effectively with students, academic staff, and external partners to ensure practicum and project experiences are appropriately scoped, well-supported, and aligned with course and programme requirements.

Mōu | Who You Are

We are seeking an academic staff member with a completed degree in sport or a closely related field. Those with extensive industry experience will also be considered.

You will also be able to demonstrate experience in:

• Strong evidence of expertise and experience in your sport discipline
• A strong track record of coordinating and leading undergraduate and courses in sport, or other relevant educational experience
• Established organisational and industry networks related to your area of expertise
• Demonstrated experience with digital platforms, including online systems used to manage practicums would be advantageous.
• A commitment to inclusive teaching practices and reflective professional development.
• Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori
