We run and support core messaging platforms at BNZ, with a strong focus on IBM MQ. This role is about owning and improving critical systems that the bank depends on — Not just keeping them running but making them better.
This is a heavily operational environment where stability matters. At the same time, there’s a strong push toward automation, reducing manual effort, and modernising how we deliver and support services.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Wellington. This is a hybrid position with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.
What are the day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Own and support IBM MQ platforms in production.
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents across distributed and mainframe environments.
- Drive automation to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
- Work with engineers and product teams to deliver and improve services.
- Continuously improve platform performance, resilience and supportability.
What skills and experience are required for this role?
- 4+ years’ experience in the technology industry.
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM MQ.
- Exposure to iSeries and/or z/OS environments.
- Strong Linux and infrastructure fundamentals.
- Experience working in DevOps / CI/CD environments.
- Experience with Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform and containers.
- Strong focus on automation and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
- Experience with AWS (preferred cloud platform).
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Experience working in Agile environments with a product mindset.
- Ability to manage incidents and production issues end-to-end.
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code and modern platform practices.
- Background in technology operations (monitoring and alerting).
- Experience delivering small to medium initiatives end-to-end.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Comfortable documenting systems and sharing knowledge.
