The opportunity - Te tūranga
As Camera Operator reporting to Studio Camera Team Lead, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality camera operations across studio and field productions, supporting live and recorded content with technical expertise, creativity, and a strong safety-first approach. This role contributes to seamless production delivery by operating and maintaining equipment, collaborating with production teams, and ensuring studios are set up and run efficiently
Your focus will be on
· Operate studio and field cameras in live and pre-recorded productions
· Assist with the setup, rigging, and pack-down of lighting, camera, and audio equipment
· Support the movement and adjustment of set elements during production
· Ensure all equipment is handled safely and in accordance with operational standards
· Engage with programme producers and directors to understand production requirements in terms of equipment and style
· Provide creative input to productions, discussing options with other craft groups (Studio Directors or Technical Managers for example)
· Ensure studios and equipment are packed away correctly at the end of shoots and are ready to be used without issue by subsequent crews
This is a six-month fixed term contract base in the Auckland Studios. It is part time role of 30 hours per week.
What we're looking for - Tā mātou e kimi nei
To be successful in this role,
· Solid experience in live television production environments
· Demonstrated expertise in studio camera operation, including pedestal (ped) and jib systems
· Proven ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team setting
· Strong technical proficiency in broadcast systems, with the ability to troubleshoot issues in fast-paced, live environments
· Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including weekends and varied hours
· Working at Heights certification
· Ropes and harness certification
· Experience and/or knowledge of robotic camera system
· Physically fit and able to rig and move heavy equipment
· Practical - use common sense when moving & rigging equipment to prevent accident, injury and damage
· Working knowledge of a wide range of field equipment (cameras, lighting, rigging etc.)
