Parking Compliance Officer

Christchurch City Council

E ngā iwi, e ngā karangatanga huri noa i te motu, tēnei te mihi atu ki a koutou katoa. He īnoi tēnei ki a koe. Tono mai ki tētahi tūnga ki te Kaunihera o Ōtautahi

Our Parking Compliance Officers are out there every day making sure that parking in the city is used safely and fairly, our tamariki are kept safe at the school gates, and that everyone can access special events around the city. We keep the wheels turning and make sure there's no unnecessary congestion in our city and suburbs so that people can get where they need to be.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

Our Parking Compliance Officers enjoy a varied, active role out in the community. You won't just be issuing tickets on the streets; you'll be residents' saviours when there is a vehicle parked over their driveway and a friendly face for our community and visitors when they look to you for directions or assistance.

A key part of the role is being highly mobile. Officers patrol both on foot and by motorcycle, and willingness to ride a motorcycle is a mandatory requirement of the position. This enables you to cover larger areas efficiently and respond quickly where needed.

It's true that if you take on this role you may encounter some complex situations and people. That's where your well-honed life skills and calm demeanour come into play. You are someone who finds it easy to communicate and de-escalate a variety of situations when required, but you'll also have the ability and common sense to know when to walk away from a challenging situation.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

While full support and training is provided, there are a few things that you'll need to be successful in this role:

  • Full unblemished New Zealand Drivers Licence to drive a manual motor vehicle and motorcycle.
    • If you don't currently have a motorcycle licence you will need to obtain one before you start.
  • The ability to pass a Police Check to obtain an Enforcement Officer warrant (clean criminal record excluding clean slate).
  • Experience managing conflict and maintaining high levels of customer service in high pressure situations
  • A background where you've dealt with a wide variety of people daily
  • A good level of physical fitness - there is a lot of ground to cover, and you'll do most of this on foot.

What's in it for you? He aha ngā hua ki a koe?

Ask our officers, they'll tell you that on a sunny day in Christchurch there is no better place to be soaking up the fresh air and clocking up your daily steps. Not only do you get to be a part of a supportive team, but our officers also say they love the degree of freedom this role gives them as you are mostly self-managed and in control of how your day turns out. You will also benefit from:

  • Access to training programmes, workshops, and development opportunities
  • Option to purchase extra leave.
  • Collaboration - exposure to wider areas of the organisation
  • Benefits - a variety of benefits for Council staff from health schemes to retail discounts.

If you want to help us keep traffic moving safely and ensure everyone gets the chance to experience our beautiful city, please apply today!
