Our client is a leading New Zealand based financial services organisation with a strong presence across New Zealand and Australia.
The Finance team plays a key role in supporting decision-making by providing accurate, timely financial insights to the Executive Leadership Team and Board. It also maintains strong financial control across management and statutory reporting, tax, cash and liquidity management, and business partnering.
As an Assistant Accountant, you will support the Head of Finance and wider finance team in delivering key outcomes while building strong technical capability. You’ll take ownership of core accounting processes, support month-end close, and help ensure accurate, high-quality financial reporting across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End/Reporting
- Support the month-end close process, including preparation and posting of journals
- Complete reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data
- Assist with monthly variance analysis against budget and forecast
- Assist with management reporting, including cost centre and project reporting
- Support preparation of ELT dashboards with accurate and meaningful insights
- Support preparation of annual financial statements for group subsidiaries
- Assist with external audit requirements and deliverables
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing and reconciliations
- Maintain the fixed asset register and associated accounting processes
Accounts Payable & Operations
- Manage end-to-end accounts payable processing, including invoice entry, approvals, and vendor setup
- Prepare and process payment batches accurately and on time
- Review and process staff expense claims and corporate credit card transactions
The ideal candidate will be/have
- Recently qualified or studying towards an accounting qualification
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar accounting role
- Strong understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and banking processes
- Intermediate/advanced Excel skills
Key to the role are exceptional interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail and excellent problem solving skills. It is a very team focussed role where you will be interacting with a number of stakeholders across the organisation.
