Tourism Central Otago (TCO) is the Regional Tourism Organisation (RTO) for Central Otago with the purpose of coordinating and facilitating the management and marketing of Central Otago as a visitor destination for the benefit of our communities. This work is guided by the Central Otago Destination Management Plan (DMP), which outlines the aspiration of our communities and mana whenua for how tourism can enrich our communities' outcomes.
Destination Advisory Board Members
Role
The Advisory Board is made up of the Chairperson, 2 further appointed roles and 4 co-opted roles. The co-opted positions will represent:
- CODC Mayor or Elected Councillor
- Kai Tahu representative
- Tourism business owner/senior manager based in Central Otago
- Youth representative (aged between 18-30)
Anticipated to hold up to 4 meetings per annum.
Role of the Destination Advisory Board
- Strategy Stewardship - understand the goals, objectives, and desired outcomes of the Central Otago Destination Management Plan.
- Review and advise on the Tourism Central Otago strategy and work programme for the implementation of the Destination Management Plan ensuring priorities are focused and achievable within agreed timeframes.
- Apply their expertise to and take a genuine interest in the outcomes and overall success.
- Support open discussion and debate and encourage fellow Advisory Board members to voice their insights.
- Use influence and authority to assist the Tourism Central Otago team to achieve its outcomes.
- Assist with resolving strategic level issues and risks as required
Desired Skills And Experience
Appointments to the Destination Advisory Board are made to strike a balance between management and marketing, providing additional in-region and out-of-region expertise and knowledge. Considerations for the Destination Advisory Board are standing within the community, strategic vision for Central Otago, knowledge of local and national tourism systems and funding, project management, knowledge of Central Government processes, Central Otago Regional Identity and Kai Tahu values, partnership with mana whenua, and youth leadership.
