Head of Risk Monitoring & Oversight

We’re looking for a senior leader to play a critical role in delivering this change. Someone who can bring a strong Line 2 perspective, influence at the highest levels, and help uplift how risk is owned and managed across ASB.

Te whai wāhitanga | The opportunity

As Head of Risk Monitoring & Oversight, you will provide senior Line 2 monitoring and oversight leadership across ASB’s distribution business units, acting as a key delegate to the GM Enterprise & Operational Risk and demonstrating strong Line 2 review and challenge while becoming a trusted and value add business partner.

This is a highly visible role where you will shape enterprise risk perspectives, influence senior decision-making, and strengthen how non-financial risk is identified, managed and embedded across your portfolio.

You will lead end-to-end Line 2 oversight across a number of business units, setting priorities, applying risk appetite, and delivering clear, value-add insights to improve risk outcomes. This includes driving stronger risk maturity, governance and culture, while ensuring consistent and high-quality oversight across divisions.

You will play a critical role in responding to material risk issues, influencing senior leaders to uplift Line 1 ownership and accountability, and representing Line 2 in key governance forums.

Alongside this, you will lead and develop a high-performing team, coordinating across Line 2 specialist and generalist functions to deliver integrated, effective oversight at scale, and uplift operational and compliance practices to the highest standard.

You’ll Bring

• Extensive experience in operational and/or compliance risk oversight
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders while maintaining Line 2 independence
• Strong judgement, particularly in complex and ambiguous environments
• Confidence operating in senior forums and constructively challenging at scale
• Outstanding stakeholder engagement and executive communication skills
• A pragmatic, outcomes-focused leadership style aligned to ASB values
