The purpose of the Programme Cost Lead is to embed within the Delivery Programmes robust, integrated cost management and control, enabling accurate forecasting, strong financial discipline, and high-quality reporting to support informed decision-making across the programme.
This role provides critical capability within Programme Delivery to maintain a single, integrated source of truth for cost, schedule, risk, and change data, supporting effective programme delivery.
Your key responsibilities are
- Responsible for cost management for programme working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to actively aggregate manage cost date and the delivery programme level.
- Ensuring that project costs are properly categorized and forecasted accurately aligned with scope.
- Maintaining the project and programme cost performance is well supported by variance and trend analysis and that critical issues are elevated in a timely manner.
- Ensuring that the cost data is readily available and presented at a level that provides clarity on performance.
- Making sure that seamless, timely and accurate transition of cost data between contractors, consultants and suppliers is visible to Auckland Airport team and vice versa.
- Driving and championing opportunities for efficiency and cost saving.
- Cross functional collaboration between the project and commercial teams ensuring that cost and risk are captured and reported on at a programme level.
- Integrating schedule data with cost to support forecasting accuracy and value management.
- Ensuring the financial impact of project changes are assessed including scope and modification requests.
- Monthly management and coordination of governance reporting.
- Consult, engage and communicate within your team and to others, to manage and improve Health, Safety and Wellbeing
What you'll bring to the role

To ensure your success in this role, you will need:
- 15+ years of experience in project cost control with a specific focus on cost, estimating and risk within large and complex infrastructure programmes.
- Experience operating in a PMO or Programme controls environment.
- Experience with commercial management, cash flow and forecasting.
- A bachelor's degree in construction management, finance, quantity surveying, engineering or related field is preferable.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with proven ability to influence at a senior level.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
