Central Otago District Council is seeking a Regulatory Support Officer – Building to join our Building Team. This is a varied role supporting the delivery of our Building Consent Authority (BCA) and Territorial Authority (TA) functions.

Working closely with Building Control Officers, Compliance Officers and the wider Regulatory Services team, you'll help ensure building applications progress smoothly, customers receive timely information, and statutory requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

This role is responsible for coordinating the administrative aspects of the building process, from application lodgement through to issuing, while supporting inspections, Code Compliance Certificate processes and regulatory programmes.

  • Vet and formally accept building applications in accordance with documented procedures and delegated authority.
  • Coordinate Vetting Requests for Further Information (VRFIs) and ensure statutory processing clocks commence correctly.
  • Support the administration of Building Consents, PIMs, MultiProofs, Certificates of Acceptance, Exempt Building Work applications, Amendments, CCCs, Certificates of Public Use and Notices to Fix.
  • Prepare statutory documentation and correspondence for issuing.
  • Coordinate inspection bookings, including remote inspections.
  • Monitor applications requiring legislative follow-up and coordinate customer communications and notifications.
  • Respond to application-specific customer enquiries relating to application status, inspections, invoices and statutory processes.
  • Administer consent-related fees and charges and ensure payment requirements are met before issuing documentation.
  • Maintain regulatory records and registers and provide information for reporting and audit purposes.
  • Provide administrative support to Building Compliance Officers across Territorial Authority programmes, including swimming pools, BWOFs and Earthquake-Prone Buildings.
  • Support Objective Build and associated regulatory systems through routine user assistance and workflow support.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.

About you

  • Experience in administration, customer service or regulatory support.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Confidence using a range of computer systems and applications.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to follow documented procedures.
  • Experience in local government or a regulatory environment desirable.
  • Building consent administration experience desirable.
  • Experience using Objective Build or similar systems desirable.
  • Experience with invoicing and administration of fees and charges desirable.
