About The Team

In our Grid Delivery Division, the Planning, Scheduling & Optimisation team creates and manages an optimised plan of work across New Zealand’s National Grid. Working closely with delivery teams, asset planning teams and service providers, the team helps ensure work is planned and scheduled in a way that supports reliable customer service, efficient delivery and minimal disruption to communities.

The opportunity – due to internal progression

Based in Ōtara Auckland, Christchurch or Wellington, this is a key leadership role in our Planning, Scheduling & Optimisation group. Working closely with the Head of Planning, Scheduling and Optimisation, you’ll lead works planning capability to deliver a stable, transparent and integrated 2+1 year rolling grid work plan across $400m per annum capital projects and $100m per annum maintenance programmes.

You’ll work across planning, delivery and operational teams to improve how work is coordinated across the grid. You’ll also establish Area Grid Planning capability, strengthen planning frameworks and governance, and improve the data and insight that support business decisions.

Success in this role will come from being outcome focused, building trusted relationships, leading through complexity and creating confidence in plan deliverability. You will:

  • Lead the development and ongoing integrity of a transparent, deliverable 2+1 year rolling work plan across projects and maintenance
  • Design and embed planning frameworks, processes and governance that support effective change control, decision-making and optimisation
  • Use planning data, reporting and insight to provide visibility of plan health, constraints, risks and performance
  • Integrate planning across replacement, refurbishment, enhancement, development and customer connection drivers to improve overall grid work outcomes
  • Lead a team culture focused on collaboration, continuous improvement, health and safety, and enterprise-wide delivery

What will you need?

You’ll bring strong works or programme planning experience from an asset-intensive, operational or regulated infrastructure environment, and know how to turn complexity into clear, practical planning outcomes.

You’ll be confident working across competing priorities, multiple stakeholders and interconnected systems. You’ll bring sound judgement, strong people leadership and a continuous improvement mindset.

Experience establishing new planning capability, or working across both capital and operational expenditure environments, will be an advantage.

  • Experience leading people, building capability and driving performance at pace
  • Strong stakeholder management across internal teams, service providers and delivery partners
  • Experience designing and improving planning or business processes in complex environments
  • Ability to use data (to cut through noise and draw insights), and systems to support planning decisions and clear advice
  • Understanding of electricity industry delivery, asset or operational processes, or similar experience in regulated infrastructure

A relevant tertiary qualification in asset management, engineering, programme management, commercial or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience in a comparable environment.
