We’re looking for a skilled, safety-focused Bitumen Sprayer Operator to join our Petone team.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

This is a hands-on role where you’ll operate bitumen and emulsion sprayers, tankers and related plant across roading and civil infrastructure projects in the Wellington region. You’ll play a big part in delivering Good Work safely, accurately and to a high standard.

You’ll be trusted to manage spray operations, complete daily vehicle and plant checks, and work closely with your crew to keep projects moving. This role will involve day and night shift work across the region, so flexibility matters.

  • Operate bitumen sprayers, tankers and associated plant safely and efficiently.

  • Load, transport and handle bitumen and emulsion products in line with safe work practices.

  • Apply bitumen and emulsion to specification and quality standards.

  • Complete daily vehicle, plant and equipment inspections, and report any defects or maintenance needs.

  • Maintain accurate records of spray operations and materials used.

  • Work closely with your team and leaders to deliver projects on time and to a high standard.

  • Follow all safety, compliance and operational requirements, and switch on when it counts.

  • Minimum Class 2 licence with Dangerous Goods, with Class 5 preferred.

  • Wheels, Tracks, Rollers (WTR) endorsements.

  • Solid experience in civil construction and surfacing, particularly spraying bitumen and emulsion products.

  • Strong knowledge of safe handling practices for bitumen and emulsion.

  • NZIHT Bitumen Sprayer Operator qualification preferred.

  • NZIHT Plant and Tanker Operator qualification preferred.

  • Mechanical experience preferred.

  • A collaborative, reliable approach and a strong focus on safety and wellbeing.

  • Flexibility to work day and night shifts across the region.

  • The ability to carry out the inherent requirements of the role.
