Council plays an important role in responding to national legislation and policy changes – this mahi is part of our operating environment and is embedded in our everyday mahi. The current proposals from central government are significant, and Council is working through the opportunities and implications. However, our mahi must continue to deliver our three core services for our partners, communities and te taiao (environment).

Kōrero mō te Tūranga | About the Role

This role plays a key part in shaping how people experience public transport in Canterbury. You’ll deliver engaging, customer focused initiatives that align with the Regional Public Transport Plan and encourage patronage growth across the region.

You’ll work across digital channels, community engagement, customer insights, and campaign delivery to keep Metro customers informed, inspired, and connected.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and advise on high‑quality marketing programmes that support PT strategy and patronage growth
  • Manage MetroInfo website content and support redesign projects
  • Deliver digital and social media content aligned with PT objectives
  • Support newsletters, campaigns, and customer communications
  • Collate, investigate, and respond to customer feedback and complaints

Your key focus will be to make a genuine difference for our community and environment. Environment Canterbury oversees public transport services across Greater Christchurch and Timaru, with a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer experience. This role is a vital part of our Customer Experience & Marketing team, ensuring we have the capability to achieve strong levels of growth in our patronage both in the short and long term.

This role is on a 12 month fixed-term contract, to cover parental leave.

You’ll be an experienced marketer, with a proven record of focusing on the customer. You will have the ability to take on a strategic marketing plan to lead delivery of assigned acquisition and retention activity, both in terms of campaigns and customer-centric improvements to services.

  • Excellent marketing nous, honed from a proven track record in the discipline
  • The ability to identify and implement improvements to customer experience, across various touchpoints and processes
  • The ability to collaborate within and across teams to ensure we deliver and maintain strong relationships
  • A history of delivering campaigns and other activations, with a ‘can do’ attitude and a strong team ethic
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in marketing (or related field)
