Policy Analyst – Financial Markets and Regulatory Institutions Team

Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

Our team provides advice to the Government on a range of economic policy areas, including banking, insurance, retirement income, capital markets, and overseas investment. We are responsible for three significant pieces of legislation the Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act, the Natural Hazards Insurance Act, and the Overseas Investment Act. Additionally, we manage the budget process for the Ministry for Regulation and lead engagement with Australian counterparts through the Trans-Tasman Council on Banking Supervision.

Our work programme is fast-paced and challenging - recently we've worked on bank capital settings, advised on the affordability of insurance, amended the Overseas Investment Amendment Act, and engaged with the OECD on their latest Economic Survey of New Zealand.

We’re seeking public policy analysts with a strong understanding of the policy development process and economic concepts. While advanced quantitative skills or direct experience in the financial sector are not required, you will need to demonstrate your experience in public policy and the ability to

  • Translate analysis into clear, compelling advice
  • Build and maintain strong relationships
  • Work proactively and thrive in a fast-paced environment
