Grid Works Scheduling Manager

Transpower New Zealand

  • Join our Planning, Scheduling & Optimisation group leadership team
  • New role as a result of the increasing scale and diversity of work programmes
  • Lead seven works schedulers, in your choice of Transpower office location!

Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand – a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.

About The Team

In our Grid Delivery Division, the Planning, Scheduling & Optimisation team creates and manages an optimised plan of work across New Zealand’s National Grid. Working closely with delivery teams, asset planning teams and service providers, the team helps ensure work is planned and scheduled in a way that supports reliable customer service, efficient delivery and minimal disruption to communities.

The opportunity

You’ll lead the works scheduling function (a team of seven working regionally) to develop a transparent, integrated and deliverable schedule of grid work. Building relationships organisation wide and with external service providers you’ll balance priorities, manage constraints and respond to emerging needs so work can be delivered safely, efficiently and reliably. Ultimately your work will build confidence in deliverability. Through strong leadership, sound governance and practical insight, you’ll help improve scheduling capability, optimise outage planning, and support better system and delivery performance across the grid. You will

  • Lead the development of an integrated forward schedule of grid work that is realistic, transparent and aligned with delivery requirements.
  • Work with service providers and internal stakeholders to manage schedule changes, resolve constraints and support confident decision-making.
  • Strengthen scheduling capability, reporting and performance insight so the business has a clear view of plan health and delivery risk.
  • Drive consistency in our works scheduling approach across regions
  • Lead and support a team culture focused on collaboration, continuous improvement, and safe, effective delivery.

What will you need?

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring experience leading scheduling, planning or similarly complex coordination work in an asset-intensive, operational or infrastructure environment.

You’ll demonstrate a continuous improvement ethos and be calm, but with consistent energy and drive, working across multiple stakeholders, and making sound decisions in the face of competing priorities. We will support and develop your leadership depth and ability to work enterprise wide.

Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate

  • People leadership skills, with the ability to build capability, lead through change and create an inclusive, high-performing team culture.
  • Experience working with third party service providers, driving performance indirectly
  • Understanding of work scheduling, in an infrastructure asset environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills, relationship and stakeholder management ability (both internal and external)
  • Demonstrated ability to translate data and complexity into clear, practical insights

Experience in electricity operations, outage optimisation, programme or portfolio planning, or large-scale scheduling systems will be highly valued.
