Software Engineer SRE

At ASB, our Payments platforms sit at the heart of how New Zealand moves money. We’re looking for an application engineer to join our Payments domain, operating within a highly secure, regulated banking environment. We have an opportunity for a sharp minded technologist to join our Site Reliability Engineering chapter as a Software Engineer. The role is embedded in the Gateway squad, which is a key part of the Payments Platform.

About the role

As a Software Engineer (Role) in a Site Reliability Engineer position, you will Provide an advanced level of technical expertise and ownership across a complex environment supporting the ASB business. Analyse and optimise the environment for reliability and scalability while delivering cost effective performance. Demonstrate outstanding customer service skills and lead by example.

What You Will Do

• Ensure high availability of systems for which you are responsible through your knowledge of the incident management, capacity management, change control, problem management and availability management processes
• Assist Problem and Incident Management
• Understand how changes will impact the environment and services being supported
• Recommend, develop and implement Initiatives and improve technology and processes
• Ensure adherence with Audit, Security and compliance requirements
• Ensure adherence with change management requirements
• Stay current with relevant Technologies.
• Implement, adhere to and contribute to the development of technical standards
• Ensure the quality of technical solutions
• Process management, certificate management and process Improvement
• Improvement of overhead, efficiencies and cost reduction
• Lead by example of well-rounded skills and commitment to all areas of responsibility
• Administration of DR/BCM & Backup plans
• Functional cross border payment flow of ISO messages
• Knowledge sharing

What We Are Looking Out For

With regards to background, the following capabilities are necessary:

• 5 years + (minimum) supporting enterprise environments
• Automation mindset to automate highly repetitive tasks
• Expert in both Windows and Linux virtual machine administration (RHCE certified), Ansible.
• Monitoring and observability exposure
• Hands on experience with Source control and CICD tooling
• Experienced in driving conversations, operate standups and familiar with Agile/Scrum ways of working

These Capabilities Are Not Mandatory But Would Be Favourable

• Sound knowledge of ITIL framework
• Information Security knowledge, high security awareness
• Having RHCE certifications would be beneficial.
• Exposure or experience to messaging technology, for example SWIFT Applications (AMH, AWH, SAG/SNL, SWP, SAA), Enterprise Payment Application, Service Bus, IBM MQ, Auto Rabbit etc
