To support our growing operations, we're looking for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our Lower Hutt workshop team.

About the Role

Based in Lower Hutt, you'll be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a wide range of heavy vehicles and specialist equipment. Our fleet includes vacuum trucks, hydro excavation units, sweepers, water blasters, tankers, and other custom-built machinery that play a critical role in delivering services across New Zealand.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll work alongside an experienced team to diagnose faults, complete repairs, and keep our fleet operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on heavy diesel vehicles and equipment

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults

  • Complete preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing

  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure vehicles meet compliance requirements

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and job documentation

  • Work collaboratively with operators, supervisors, and workshop staff

  • Support breakdown response and urgent repair work when required

  • Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent trade qualification

  • Experience working on heavy trucks, plant, or specialist equipment

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills

  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • A commitment to quality workmanship and safety

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Class 4 licence preferred (or willingness to obtain)

  • Welding and fabrication experience advantageous but not essential
