Engineering Information Management Specialist

Transpower New Zealand

Help Shape How Engineering Information Supports The National Grid.

Transpower owns and operates New Zealand’s National Grid, delivering electricity from generation sources to homes, businesses, and communities across the country. As we continue to strengthen our digital engineering capability through the adoption of BIM and digital twin methodologies, this role will play an important part in supporting our transition from 2D to 3D engineering design and operation.

About The Team

The Enterprise Information Management Team supports the governance and management of Transpower’s engineering information. This includes drawings, models, controlled documents, photos, multimedia and technical records used by internal teams and external partners across the business.

The opportunity

Alongside members of our drawing and model unit, you will work with a significant and complex engineering information environment, including approximately 800,000 CAD files, hundreds of 3D engineering models, millions of photos, and around 400 PLS-CADD models supporting more than 25,000 towers and 11,000 km of transmission circuits across New Zealand.

This role is key to ensuring engineering information is accurate, accessible, secure and fit for purpose. It also contributes to the ongoing improvement of core engineering information systems and the effective use of these datasets across the business.

In this role, you will:

  • Facilitate access to drawing and model data for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring appropriate access controls and security of Transpower records
  • Promote best practice information management workflows, providing practical guidance, coaching, and capability development
  • Contribute to the development of drawing and model standards, workflows, and documentation
  • Monitor drawing and model outputs to ensure completeness, quality, and timeliness across operational and project work
  • Contribute ideas to improve tools, processes, and future digital engineering capability

About You

You bring experience working with engineering information in technical, infrastructure, or project environments, along with strong attention to detail, practical problem-solving skills, and a systems-thinking approach.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with engineering information, drawings, models or related systems
  • Experience supporting information management or document control in an engineering or infrastructure setting
  • Strong relationship skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Confidence sharing knowledge, supporting users, and building capability

While not essential, please let us know if you also have:

  • An understanding of ISO 19650 principles and structured information management workflows
  • Experience with Bentley ProjectWise, PLS-CADD, and Autodesk tools such as AutoCAD or Revit
  • Exposure to construction or engineering project environments using formal information management systems
  • Experience working with electrical engineering drawings or asset-based infrastructure data
  • A tertiary qualification in information management, engineering technology, CAD/BIM, or a related discipline

What sets this role apart?

This is an opportunity to work with information that underpins one of New Zealand’s most critical infrastructure networks, directly supporting how the National Grid is designed, maintained, and developed.

You’ll also gain exposure to large-scale engineering datasets, evolving digital engineering practices, and emerging digital twin capability, while building experience in a specialist area that continues to grow in importance.
