At He Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens (WMK), we're proud to support over 135 kindergartens across a variety of regions—from Taranaki, Whanganui, Central Plateau, Horowhenua, Manawatū, Kāpiti, Porirua, Greater Wellington, Upper Hutt, Wairarapa and South Otago. We also offer a unique home-based service, Etu Ao, in Porirua and Levin, with a special focus on Pasific families.

Today, more than 6,000 children are part of the Whānau Manaaki kindergarten family, with an additional 150 children enrolled in our Etu Ao home-based programme. Together, we're building strong foundations for lifelong learning and wellbeing.
Community Description
Whitby is a picturesque and well-established suburb located in the eastern part of Porirua City. Nestled along the southern shore of the Pauatahanui Inlet, it offers a unique blend of natural beauty, thoughtful urban planning, and a strong sense of community.
Our kindergarten is one of three Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens serving the Whitby community in Porirua city. Our kindergarten is adjacent to Adventure School and feeds into three local primary schools. Whitby is known for its family-friendly atmosphere. The suburb also features the Whitby Shopping Centre, which acts as the commercial hub, and hosts weekend markets and community events that foster a strong local spirit.

Our culturally diverse learning community includes many young professional families, who are actively engaged with the learning journey of their tamariki. These strong and reciprocal relationships within our learning community includes local schools. The Kindergarten community works together to create an inviting and well-resourced environment which actively encourages and supports tamariki exploration, participation and learning.
As a .7 Teacher your total hours of work will be 28 hours per week, with .5hr unpaid lunch breaks Tues, Thurs, Fri.
Mon 3hrs (11.30am o 2.30pm)
Tues 8hrs (7.30am to 4.00pm with .5hr unpaid break)
Wed 4.75hrs (11.15am to 4.00pm)
Thurs 6.5hrs (7.30am to 2.30pm with .5hr unpaid break)
Fri 5.75hrs (8.30am to 2.45pm with .5hr unpaid break)
We are licenced for 40 children who attend for 6 hours each day. You will join our team of 4 other teachers.
We are looking for an enthusiastic ECE kaiako who:
- effectively works with parents and whānau as partners in their child's learning,
- demonstrates strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through pedagogical practices and who can demonstrate our values above,
- confidently supports tamariki as active learners and contributes to effective curriculum implementation and evaluation,
- contributes effectively to a positive team culture, through demonstrating flexibility and respecting and appreciating a range of perspectives,
- demonstrates a strong commitment to protecting and promoting the home language of emergent bilingual tamariki and their whānau,
- demonstrates how social and emotional competence is woven through their everyday ako/teaching and learning practice.
