Today, more than 6,000 children are part of the Whānau Manaaki kindergarten family, with an additional 150 children enrolled in our Etu Ao home-based programme. Together, we're building strong foundations for lifelong learning and wellbeing.

Community description

Ngaio is a family -orientated suburb conveniently located close to Wellington's central business district. The kindergarten is nestled in a bush setting overlooking Cummings Park at the back, while the front is situated in Ngaio's main commercial area, making it easily accessible by public transport. The local school, library, café, and other amenities are within easy walking distance.

The kindergarten has a role of 30 with children, aged from 2 years to school age and attending for a six-hour session, five days a week.

Kaiako in this kindergarten work alongside tamariki and whānau to foster a sense of belonging at the kindergarten and to provide a culturally responsive and engaging environment, where all tamariki can be confident in their identities, languages, cultures, and abilities.

This role is a .6 (24 hours per week) worked the following:

Mon 4.5hrs (12.00pm - 4.30pm)

Tue 4.5hrs (12.00pm - 4.30pm)

Wed 4hrs (10.45am - 2.45pm)

Thu 6.25hrs (8.00am - 2.45pm inc 1/2hr unpaid break)

Fri 4.75hrs (8.00am - 12.45pm)

We are looking for an ECE teacher who:

  • Places tamaiti at the heart of their practice, values kotahitanga, and builds warm, respectful and trusting relationships with tamariki, whānau and colleagues.
  • Champions collaboration and teamwork, nurturing both individual and collective mana through a strong, relationship‑based approach that connects our kindergarten community.
  • Works in genuine partnership with whānau and fellow kaiako to create a caring, inclusive and responsive learning environment where everyone belongs.
  • Actively supports and strengthens our kaitiakitanga, bringing a passion for sustainability and nature‑based learning into everyday practice.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to weaving te reo Māori throughout their practice, fostering culturally responsive and collaborative ways of working that honour and uplift the mana of all.
