About the team
Our Information Services and Technology (IST) Division delivers and supports Transpower’s ICT infrastructure and ~180 applications that interface with the grid, support system operations, and enable our corporate functions.
The IST Delivery Services team delivers circa $80m of ICT projects per annum across a mix of agile and waterfall methodologies. We are responsible for ensuring delivery is well-managed, appropriately resourced, and consistently executed to meet business outcomes.
About the opportunity
As part of the Delivery Services leadership team, you will lead the Core Delivery (Enterprise) portfolio — a high-volume portfolio of Tier 2 projects typically <$1m capex, focused on lifecycle uplift and enhancements across ~90 enterprise business applications (including Finance, HR and Asset Management systems).
You will lead a core team of two, supported by a flexible contractor and vendor delivery model, to ensure consistent, predictable delivery across the portfolio.
This role is about more than delivery — you will shape delivery practice, optimise portfolio flow, and lift capability across enterprise delivery.
Your focus will include
- Delivering a portfolio of projects to agreed outcomes (time, cost, quality, safety)
- Maintaining clear portfolio visibility, governance, and early risk identification
- Ensuring effective resource planning across internal teams, contractors, and vendors
- Strengthening stakeholder engagement and communication across the business
- Embedding consistent delivery practices aligned to Transpower’s Service Delivery Framework
- Driving continuous improvement across ways of working
What success looks like (12 months)
- A predictable, well-managed delivery cadence across the portfolio
- Improved visibility of risks, dependencies, and delivery performance
- Strong contractor and vendor contribution aligned to delivery outcomes
- Consistent application of delivery frameworks and governance
- Positive engagement with stakeholders across enterprise functions
What will you bring?
You will bring strong portfolio and delivery leadership experience, coupled with the ability to operate in complex, commercially focused environments.
You’ll be confident navigating ambiguity, influencing stakeholders, and driving outcomes through a mix of direct and indirect leadership.
Your experience includes
- 10+ years portfolio, programme, or project delivery experience in a large, commercially oriented environment
- 5+ years leading delivery across programmes, including vendor and partner engagement
- Strong financial management capability (planning, forecasting, risk management)
- Experience developing business cases and leading procurement processes
- Proven ability to build capability and effectively onboard delivery resources (permanent and contract)
- Demonstrated people leadership — motivating, developing, and setting standards across delivery teams
Relevant certifications (e.g. MSP, PMP) and experience across multiple delivery methodologies will be advantageous.
