The purpose of the Government Inquiry into the Fatal Landslides in Tauranga is to establish how the fatal landslides occurred, report on whether relevant agencies took appropriate steps to manage any apparent risk in the period immediately prior to the two fatal landslides, including steps to warn and evacuate people likely to be affected by the landslides, and identify any lessons that can be applied to reduce the risk of similar tragedies in future.

The role | Te tunga

As Senior Advisor you will bring a wealth of experience developing communications and engagement strategies within fast moving and complex environments. Alongside the Principal Advisor you will play a lead role in the development and implementation of engagement plans and tools to support the work of the Inquiry. These plans will clearly identify and outline objectives, risks, mitigations and key messages.

You will be confident communicator and natural connector, comfortable engaging with a broad range of stakeholders and members of the community including iwi, respondents and impacted parties. Politically savvy, you will know how to navigate complex environments, anticipating risks and future issues.

  • Subject matter expertise across a broad range of disciplines including channels development, stakeholder engagement and content development.
  • Significant experience developing high-quality communications advice and products
  • Exceptional ability to identify and effectively mitigate risks and consistently use sound judgement using the best evidence available
  • Excellent knowledge of government and policy processes
  • Demonstrated skills in supporting the Crown in its relationship with Maori under te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Understanding of the broader strategic context
  • Structured work practices with the ability to plan well
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent relationship skills and the ability to work at all levels of organisations
