Design impactful content for MPs and the Party Leader in a fast-paced, high-profile environment shaping political communications.

The National Leader's Office (NLO) supports the National Party Leader and National Party MPs, by providing communications services, social media/digital, research support, and general/financial management. We are a dynamic and forward-thinking political organisation, working closely with our MPs, and colleagues in the Prime Minister's Office and Ministerial Services.

About the role

As a Senior Graphic Designer, you will provide a wide range of in-house graphic design services across print and digital, to National Party Members of Parliament.

A snapshot of some of your daily responsibilities include:

  • Provide graphic design services to the National Party Leader and National MPs.
  • Undertake design work across multiple, and complex projects for print and digital collateral, ensuring work is of a high standard, in alignment with National’s brand standards and audience appropriate.
  • Create impactful social media content, working with the wider digital team.
  • Responsible for the overall design production from concept to end-product delivery, on time and within budget.
  • Manage print production, provide advice and manage the Publicity sign-off process.
  • Ensure design requests are completed to a high standard in a timely manner and ensure the client is keep informed of progress.
  • Manage multiple incoming requests, prioritising effectively and communicating trade-offs when needed
  • Provide brand guardianship for the National Party’s Parliamentary publicity.
  • Develop appropriate client management processes and suitable support material.
  • Manage design files so that they are easily accessible, and the filing system is maintained
  • Work closely with the Digital Manager and the digital team on social media content
  • Identify opportunities to improve how we work, including using new tools and technologies

Qualifications/experience

  • 5 years’ experience as an in-house or freelance designer with a strong portfolio of previous work.
  • A strong creative portfolio showcasing your skills across a variety of design projects
  • The ability to take a brief and independently deliver high-quality outputs
  • Understanding of the social media landscape and what works online
  • Ability to work autonomously on multiple projects at once, with competing work demands
  • High level of expertise in Adobe Creative Suite Software (in particular InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • MacOS designers preferred
  • An understanding of the political landscape and the machinery of Government
  • Recognised tertiary qualification in graphic design

Employees are employed on an 'events based' agreement, with your employment linked to the Leader of the National Party. This role is based at the Parliamentary precinct in Wellington, for 40 hours per week.
