Silver Fern Farms Waitōtara is offering a permanent opportunity for a motivated professional to lead health and safety practices at our site. We welcome candidates with experience in the primary industry or food processing sector, or those with transferable skills from hands‑on roles who will feel confident in a factory environment. You’ll need to step in quickly, supporting your team while helping them grow.
As Health & Safety Advisor, you will embed best practice across the site, including incident learning, risk assessments, system management, supporting Health & Safety Representatives, education initiatives, and reporting to site management. Acting as the key link between our corporate health and safety team and the site, you’ll ensure strong communication and collaboration to drive positive change.
This role is vital to maintaining compliance with current legislation while fostering a culture of health, safety, and wellbeing for everyone onsite. Success will require excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build trusted relationships, and the confidence to influence and lead effectively.
Waitōtara is a small rural settlement on SH3, roughly 20 minutes from Whanganui and 45 minutes from Hāwera. The Waitōtara River runs through the area and is widely used for fishing and whitebaiting. The coast is a short drive away, providing access to surfcasting and beach walking. The surrounding farmland and hill country support hunting and tramping, making it a great place to live for those who love the outdoors.
Ōu Pūkenga /About You
- Tertiary qualification in H&S (or a related field)
- 2-3 years of practical experience in the field
- Can lead and promote a health and safety focused culture across site.
- Can provide leadership and advice to site management and staff in relation to H&S matters.
- Demonstrates knowledge and practical application of risk assessment methodologies to support effective decision making.
- Strong training capability and ability to develop resources
- Ability to engage with people at all levels, to empower others and willingness to learn and develop personally
- Commercial acumen
- Computer literacy - proficiency in the use of Microsoft (Word, Excel), databases and systems
