Project Manager

Fulton Hogan

About the role

We're looking for an experienced Project Manager to lead delivery on our Grassmere project in Christchurch - a major wastewater storage tank project.

This is serious infrastructure that matters to the community. You'll be leading a technically challenging civil structures project with a strong focus on water retaining structures, programme delivery, commercial performance, and safe execution.

If you know how to run complex work under NZS3910 contracts, can bring people together, and like the idea of doing good work without the big ego, this could be your next move.

You'll join a team that delivers some of Fulton Hogan's most interesting civil structures work. The standards are high, the work is meaningful, and the team is flat, friendly, and forward moving. We take the work seriously, not ourselves.

Key role responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of the Grassmere wastewater storage tank project.
  • Plan the execution of works and develop practical construction methodologies across all project stages.
  • Manage project risks early and put effective mitigation strategies in place.
  • Oversee programme, budget, forecasting, and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Drive strong commercial outcomes while maintaining quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Lead and coordinate internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to keep delivery on track.
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with contractual obligations, including strong working knowledge of NZS3910.
  • Maintain a safe, well-run site and support a culture where people look out for each other and speak up.
  • Carry out regular inspections to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Report progress, performance, and key delivery outcomes to senior leaders and stakeholders.

We're looking for someone with

  • At Least 10+ years' experience delivering civil construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong New Zealand project delivery experience, ideally on complex vertical or horizontal infrastructure works.
  • Proven experience managing civil structures and water retaining structures.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience administering and delivering projects under NZS3910 contracts.
  • Strong commercial capability, including cost control, forecasting, programming, and achieving positive project outcomes.
  • The Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Clear and confident communication, both written and verbal.
  • A relevant engineering qualification such as BE, NZCE, or Diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and insulation scopes would be a real advantage.
  • A proactive, accountable approach and a strong focus on safety, quality, and delivery.

Good Work equals Good Benefits

  • Company Vehicle with personal use
  • KiwiSaver employer contributions
  • Fuel discount card for relatives
  • Parental leave top-up payment with additional return to work support
  • Family scholarships
  • Ongoing training and development, career growth and progression opportunities
  • Great discounts at a wide range of retailers
  • Medical insurance "an eligibility period applies"
  • Life insurance

At Fulton Hogan, we genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and giving them the tools and opportunities they need to succeed and grow with us.

At Fulton Hogan, Good Work is more than what we deliver - it's how we do it. We work side by side, back good ideas, and keep things straight up. No ivory towers. Just capable people doing meaningful work together.

Our Civil Structures team delivers technically challenging projects across Aotearoa, including bridges, pump stations, treatment plants, tanks, pipelines, and other major infrastructure. We're relaxed in style, serious when it counts, and always looking for better ways to build. That means high expectations, low ego, and real opportunities to grow your impact.

If you're after rigid hierarchy and endless sign-off, we're probably not for you. If you want to lead good people on important work and keep moving forward, you'll fit right in.
