The Regulatory and Identity Services Taituara branch shapes systems and services that touch almost every New Zealander. Within this, the Regulatory Services Group has oversight of three significant regulatory systems - Anti'Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), Gambling, and Charities.
The Online Gambling Directorate is responsible for implementing and regulating New Zealand's new Online Casino Gambling regime. This includes overseeing a licensed market, preventing unlicensed operators, and ensuring strong consumer protections.

As Deputy Director, Online Gambling Operations, you will lead the frontline regulatory delivery of a new and high'profile regulatory system.
Reporting to the Director Gambling, you will be responsible for embedding a modern, risk'based operating model and leading a high'performing, multidisciplinary team. You will oversee licensing, compliance, monitoring and enforcement activities across both licensed and unlicensed online gambling markets.
You'll play a critical role in shaping how the system operates in practice, ensuring it is effective, proportionate and responsive to risk, while contributing to the strategic leadership of the Directorate.
This is a unique opportunity to help build and lead a new regulatory function in a fast'evolving digital environment.
The appointing range for this role is $163,000 - $203,000

- Proven experience leading operational delivery in a regulatory or complex environment
- Strong people leadership capability, with a track record of building high'performing and engaged teams
- Deep understanding of regulatory practice, including risk'based approaches, compliance and enforcement
- Experience designing and delivering operational models, systems and work programmes
- Ability to think strategically and respond to emerging risks in dynamic environments
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across government, industry and international partners
