About the role | Ko te mahi nei
You'll play a pivotal role in strengthening Christchurch’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. You’ll lead and deliver civil defence projects that enhance community resilience, while providing expert advice, managing funding and resources, and coordinating with partners across the sector.
This is a dynamic and varied role, one day you’ll be scoping and delivering resilience projects, the next you’ll be working with stakeholders to align priorities, and the next you could be supporting or leading key functions in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) during a live event.
You'll also be:
- Championing emergency management capability across Council, communities, and partner agencies
- Leading the scoping, planning, and delivery of resilience-focused CDEM projects
- Managing project budgets, procurement, reporting, and governance requirements
- Coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver aligned outcomes
- Supporting operational readiness, and building CDEM capacity and capability
- Act as an on-call Duty Officer to ensure Christchurch can quickly respond to emergencies
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
- A tertiary qualification in emergency management or *equivalent experience (*At least 5 years' direct experience in the emergency management sector)
- Proven stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Demonstrable experience in project management and problem-solving skills
- Governance report writing, data management and budgeting skills
- GIS and IT systems experience (advantageous)
- Self-sufficient in identifying opportunities to improve operational readiness capability, and able to plan and execute the tasks needed to deliver these
- Flexibility to be available on a 24/7 rostered basis

- Hours of work - Fulltime Permanent Position
- Location - This position is primarily based at Justice Precinct - Litchfield Street - Christchurch
- Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
