Product Designer (Senior / Lead) | Digital Banking | Wellington or Auckland

About the Role

We are partnering with a global digital consultancy on one of New Zealand's most high-profile digital transformation projects - a greenfield, customer-facing banking experience being built for one of NZ's Big 4 banks. This is a genuine contract-to-hire opportunity (3 months initial) with strong potential to extend or convert to permanent for the right person. You'll be joining a well-resourced team of 20–30 professionals where collaboration, craft, and pace matter.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver exceptional end-to-end customer experiences across a new digital banking platform
• Translate complex banking workflows into intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling interfaces
• Work closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to align design decisions with customer and business needs
• Contribute to and uphold a consistent design system and visual language
• Rapidly iterate on concepts through prototyping, testing, and feedback cycles
• Advocate for the customer throughout the product development lifecycle

Required Skills & Experience

• Banking or financial services experience essential. You understand how banks operate, how customers think, and how to deliver in a regulated environment
• Exceptional visual design skills with strong UX thinking and sound design rationale
• Proven experience designing customer-facing digital products, ideally in banking or fintech
• Ability to work at pace and collaborate in person with a co-located team
• Available to start immediately

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within a consultancy or delivery-focused environment
• Familiarity with design systems and component-based design
• Experience on greenfield or transformation projects
