The Digital, Data and Finance Group brings together digital capability, data insight and financial stewardship to support how Maritime NZ makes informed decisions about what it delivers and how it invests in order to deliver strong regulatory performance
Within this, the Information and Insights function plays a critical role in enabling better decision-making-bringing together data, analytics and intelligence to support regulatory outcomes and organisational priorities.
Te tunga | The role
Maritime NZ is undergoing a period of change to strengthen its sustainability and future focus. Following an organisational redesign, we are recruiting into a number of newly shaped roles that support our shift toward more efficient, digitally enabled ways of working, helping position us for the future.
This role is responsible for shaping how data and insights are used across Maritime NZ. As Manager Information and Insights, youll lead the organisations data, intelligence and geospatial capability, along with its core digital insight platforms-ensuring insights are integrated, accessible, digitally enabled and driving better decisions. Youll shift the focus from standalone data outputs to connected, actionable insight, that supports regulatory organisational and investment decisionmaking
Key areas of focus include:
- Leading the development of integrated insight, data, and analysis to support regulatory and organisational decision-making and investment
- Acting as Product Owner for the digital System of Insight, shaping its vision, roadmap and value, including leading thinking on how digital, data, and AI can generate high-value insight
- Ensuring data capability, analytics and platforms operate as a cohesive ecosystem
- Strengthening how data and insight are embedded across digital platforms and delivery
- Leading data governance, ensuring responsible, quality and accessible use of data assets
- Building strong relationships across the organisation to understand organisational needs and embed insight into planning and performance
- Leading and developing a multidisciplinary team across digital insight, data, intelligence and geospatial functions
This role is central to ensuring Maritime NZ has a clear, evidence-based understanding of the system it regulates and can act with confidence and impact.

Youre an experienced leader in data, analytics or intelligence who can operate at both strategic and delivery levels. You bring strong systems thinking and the ability to translate insight into meaningful organisational action.
You will bring:
- Experience leading data, analytics or intelligence functions in complex environments
- Proven people leadership capability across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong ability to translate strategic questions into actionable insight
- Experience working across digital platforms, data products and analytics ecosystems
- Understanding of data governance, privacy and responsible use
- Experience influencing senior leaders and embedding insight into decision-making
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Strategic and systems-thinking capability
- Comfort working across ambiguity and competing priorities
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret national security clearance

Salary range
$194,797 - $238,085 depending on skills and experience + superannuation.
