The Telford campus of Southern Institute of Technology, situated 6 km south of Balclutha, has an opportunity for a Permanent Full Time Tutor to join our Teaching team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position involves delivering high-quality education and training to learners in a supportive, practical learning environment. The tutor will work with groups and play a key role in developing students’ skills across a broad range of primary industries disciplines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver engaging and effective teaching across a range of primary industries subjects
  • Support students in developing practical and theoretical knowledge
  • Facilitate learning in areas such as livestock production, pastures, soils, management
  • Promote safe practices, including farm safety and equipment use
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to programme development
  • Work collaboratively within a small, supportive academic team

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL HAVE

  • A minimum of a diploma in a primary industries-related field
  • Practical primary industry experience
  • Knowledge of livestock production, pastures, soils, management, and sustainable practices
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage adult learners
  • A positive, flexible attitude with good problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work effectively in small teams and think creatively

Teaching experience is an advantage; however, training will be provided. Successful applicants will be required to undertake the New Zealand Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching (Level 5) through SIT.
