NZDF is seeking a Senior Procurement & Commercial Specialist to join Defence Commercial Services in Wellington. This is a senior role supporting nationally significant procurement across defence capability and government enabling services

The Role

You'll manage end-to-end procurement activities (plan, source, manage) across a diverse portfolio - including defence capability projects (e.g. emerging technologies and equipment), as well as professional services type functions (e.g. HR, Finance, Defence College, and Veterans' Affairs). The role combines strategic sourcing and operational procurement, working within a highly governed public sector environment and contributing to NZDF's procurement Centre of Excellence.

  • Deliver on procurement strategies and sourcing activities
  • Develop and manage strong and effective internal working relationships
  • Apply governance, risk, and compliance frameworks
  • Support both strategic and operational procurement needs
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and capability uplift

About You

We're looking for a senior procurement professional who brings maturity, commercial judgement, and credibility in complex environments.

You will be:

  • Strong in stakeholder engagement and influencing
  • Experienced in government or structured procurement environments
  • Commercially astute, adaptable, and pragmatic
  • Confident balancing strategy with hands-on delivery
  • Comfortable working within formal governance and compliance frameworks

To be eligible for the required level of government security clearance with NZDF, you must meet the following criteria:

Higher Level Security Clearance

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen, or hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa
  • You must have lived continuously for the last ten (10) years in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America
  • You must have a ten (10) year background history that can be verified and assessed by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS)
