This is an exciting opportunity to join the high-performing Building Assurance team at Waipā District Council. We are seeking a qualified and motivated Building Inspector to be based in either our Cambridge or Te Awamutu office. In this role, you’ll travel across the district to carry out a range of building inspections and contribute to maintaining high standards within our community.

The Role

This role plays an essential part in supporting Council to meet its obligations under the Building Act 2004 and to continue operating as an effective Building Consent Authority (BCA). As a Building Inspector, you’ll carry out inspections and certification of building work to ensure it meets all statutory, regulatory and legislative requirements. You will carry out inspections at key stages of construction for both new builds and alterations, helping ensure safe, compliant outcomes for our community.

The role operates within the Residential 1–3 and Commercial 1 competency frameworks, providing a diverse mix of work, from small residential developments through to larger and more complex commercial projects.

About You

This role suits a customer-focused, collaborative professional who builds strong working relationships with ease. With this approach, you will contribute to achieving the best outcomes for our community, using your sound understanding of building legislation and practical experience in residential and commercial construction.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Technical qualification to meet the requirements of Regulation 18 of the Building Regulations 2006 (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities), for example; National Diploma in Building Control Surveying, Level 6.
  • Residential 1-3 and Commercial 1 competency (or the ability to achieve and maintain these)
  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and New Zealand Building Code
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence, Class 1
