About the team | Ko te rōpū nei

The Pou Kohikohinga Māori works within the Ngā Ratonga Māori, Māori Library Services Team embedding Ngā Aho, the Libraries bicultural plan and enabling meaningful community collaboration. Ngā Ratonga Māori are a committed team of Māori librarians who care for our physical collections and programme delivery throughout the libraries.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

This unique role will enable you to use your knowledge as a collection’s specialist relating to mātauranga Māori. You will have a strong focus on customer service to engage with the community and the ability and skills to deliver high quality services and programmes of particular interest to Māori.

You will deliver reference services, information activities and programmes both in house and community based as required relating to the Ngā Pounamu Māori and Ngāi Tahu collection resources across our community libraries. You will contribute to the provision of professional development for colleagues in this area and assist with developing and updating Māori digital resources and services along with promotion of our broader library services.

As Pou Kohikohinga Māori, you will be comfortable being involved from a Te Ao Māori perspective in both formal and informal situations. You will lead with integrity and embrace our values of māramatanga, manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga and whanaungatanga.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has

  • Competence in te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga
  • A good foundation in Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Passionate about connecting the community with Māori information
  • Good organisational, planning and administrative skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including communicating confidently with individuals and groups
  • Experience in all aspects of information retrieval
  • Previous library experience
  • A tertiary qualification
  • A driver’s licence

  • Hours of work - Monday to Friday with some after-hours work required as needed
  • Position - Full-time, permanent
  • Location - This position is primarily based at 180 Smith Street, Linwood, Christchurch but can work from any Christchurch City Library as required
  • Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $74,395 - $82,660 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
  • Closing Date - Sunday 21st June 2026
    • Wed 10 June 5.30-6.30pm in Waruwarutū Ngā Pounamu Māori Collection, Tūranga
    • Thurs 18 June 5.30-6.30pm in Ngā Pounamu Māori Collection, Linwood Library
