Assistant Manager (Operations)

Phoenix Metal Recyclers NZ Limited is New Zealand's largest privately owned metal recycling company. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager (2IC) to support the Branch Manager.
This is a permanent full-time position responsible for overseeing daily operational activities, supervising staff, maintaining high health and safety standards, coordinating logistics, and ensuring the efficient running of the branch.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the day-to-day management of branch operations.
- Lead, supervise, and support operational staff to achieve productivity and performance targets.
- Promote and maintain a strong health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Coordinate operational workflows, logistics, transport movements, and customer service activities.
- Monitor quality standards, stock control, and operational reporting requirements.
- Support staff training, development, and performance management.
- Ensure equipment, facilities, and company assets are maintained to operational standards.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve safety, efficiency, and operational performance.
- Assist in achieving branch operational and business objectives.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a management, supervisory, or operations leadership role.
- Proven experience leading and developing teams.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing operational performance, resources, and workflow planning.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.
- Experience in logistics, recycling, manufacturing, transport, warehousing, or a similar operational environment is advantageous.
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in related field.
- First Aid Certificate.
- WTR and/or F Endorsement.
- Class 2 or Class 4 Driver Licence.
