About our team/Mō te tīma
Since its establishment in 1905, the Department of Anatomy has grown to become one of the largest Departments in the University. It makes major contributions to the undergraduate and postgraduate education of students in science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical lab sciences, nutrition, and physical education. The Department has several internationally recognised research groups lead by experienced academic staff.
Our Department has a core teaching staff of academic staff, including Clinical/Function Senior Lecturers and Professional Practice Fellows who support health science courses.
The role/Te mahi
A Professional Practice Fellow is an academic staff member who supports the teaching in professional courses in anatomy related subjects. In this role you will support the Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy teaching program, including dissection practical demonstrations highlighting surgical approaches and techniques, covering surgical aspects during surgical anatomy tutorials, and assisting the coordination of Surgical Anatomy residential weeks.
As a Professional Practice Fellow with our Department, you will:
- Be required to undertake clinical duties and contribute to the teaching programmes.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate level teaching and contribute to the continuing development of the programmes within the Department.
- Contribute to the Departments’ academic goals by applying and sharing expert knowledge in a professional discipline.
- Facilitate learning.
- Assist with assessments.
Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Hold a PhD, M.D. (Doctor of Medicine), M.S. (Master of Surgery) or equivalent higher research/academic qualification. A medical/surgical professional qualification is highly desirable.
- Have a proven teaching record and a passion for teaching clinical/functional anatomy.
- Have effective communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to create a motivating environment for staff and students.
- Provide evidence of an ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.

This is a permanent, full-time (1 FTE) position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.
The salary range for this position is $75,727 to $87,849 per annum.
