The Electoral Commission is looking for an experienced candidate to join our Data and Insights team to contribute to delivering the 2026 General Election. This role will report to the Manager Data and Insights, with responsibility to provide critical data advice, analysis, and information to support decision-making.
This role will provide surge capacity during a critical delivery phase. We are looking for a self-starter who can hit the ground running, quickly get up to speed and start adding value as soon as possible as a part of a key delivery function.
This is a fixed term role from July 2026 – February 2027, with the salary band from $127,160 - $141,290 based on the skills and experirnce of the candiadate.
The preferred base for the position is the Electoral Commission's main office in Wellington, though working from other Commission offices or remotely in New Zealand will be considered.

- Querying and analysing data and creating meaningful insights to assist the Commission in making sound evidence-based decisions and demonstrate performance.
- Developing dashboards, and other business intelligence and analytical solutions.
- Contributing to the quality assurance and maintenance of existing dashboards and tools.
- Responding to public and media enquiries that require customised or specialised data or reports.

You are someone who thrives in a team environment, has a methodical approach to work, and enjoys developing analytical models, dashboards, and insights to tell a story with data.
Ko ngā mea ka hiahiatia e koe kia angitū | What you'll need to succeed
- Experience developing, testing and maintaining dashboards and data visualisations in a business intelligence tool (Tableau preferable).
- Proficient in querying data with SQL and working with relational databases.
- Experience with complex datasets.
- Proven stakeholder engagement skills.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or at least 3-5 years' experience in analytics and insights.
- Strong understanding of statistical techniques and concepts.
- Ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple deliverables, and deliver to deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience delivering insights in an operational context.
- Experience is data engineering/data pipelines.
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure and Snowflake preferable).
- Experience in managing projects and gathering requirements from business users.
