Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Downer’s Waikato Energy & Utilities team is looking for an experienced Electrical Fitter to deliver installation, maintenance and fault repair across substations, transformers, HV/LV switchgear, regulators and wider distribution network equipment.

This role offers variety with planned works, reactive maintenance, fault response and technical diagnostics.

You’ll be part of a skilled crew responsible for delivering high‑quality technical work that keeps the network reliable. Work closely with internal teams to assess requirements, estimate materials and support smooth project delivery. With access to strong procedures, industry‑leading safety frameworks and ongoing training, you’ll have the opportunity to continue building your skills across the substation and distribution environment.

This is a Full-Time, Permanent role based from Clem Newby Rd in Te Rapa, Hamilton. We guarantee 40 hours per week, with occasional (compensated) overtime.

Ngā pūkenga matua | Important Skills

We’re looking for a practical, safety ‑ focused Electrical Fitter with proven experience maintaining distribution or substation assets and delivering high ‑ quality technical work.

You will bring:

  • Electrical Fitter or Electrician trade qualification (with relevant registration)
  • Experience working with substations, transformers, switchgear or distribution equipment
  • Strong fault ‑ finding and diagnostic skills
  • High attention to detail, quality and safe work practices
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team
