Toitu Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand plays a vital role in understanding, developing, and caring for Aotearoa New Zealand's whenua, moana and arawai. Our digital and data capabilities are critical to delivering trusted services, enabling good decision making, and supporting sustainable outcomes for New Zealanders.

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect with significant software design and build experience, ideally including experience using low code tools such as Appian and Microsoft Power Platform. You will provide strong architectural leadership across our digital initiatives. This role brings a public-sector lens to solution design, ensuring technology choices balance customer outcomes, value for money, risk, security, privacy, and long-term sustainability.

Working closely with Digital Delivery squads, business owners, and partners, you will translate complex policy and operational needs into clear, pragmatic, and secure end-to-end software solutions. You will act as a trusted advisor, supporting confident decisions in a complex and evolving environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and deliver end-to-end solution architectures that align with LINZ strategy, standards and regulatory requirements, translating business needs into clear, practical solutions.
  • Provide architectural leadership across initiatives and product teams working in an agile environment, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and fit for purpose across their lifecycle.
  • Lead design assurance and governance activities, including reviewing solutions, managing risks, and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Offer senior technical guidance to delivery teams, supporting quality outcomes, SDLC practices, and the use of shared capabilities.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and facilitate collaborative workshops, clearly communicating complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the growth of the architecture practice through mentoring, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement, while staying current with emerging technologies such as cloud, integration, and responsible AI

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years' experience as a Solution Architect delivering end-to-end, custom-built solutions concept through to implementation.
  • Broad architectural experience across applications, integration, cloud, data, infrastructure, and security, with a complex systems environment
  • Strong software architecture experience designing bespoke applications and SDLC's across Low-code No-code, Java, React and .Net stacks
  • Solid understanding of architecture frameworks, modelling techniques, and best practice in complex environments.
  • Experience designing solutions in highly regulated environments with strong privacy, security, and assurance requirements.
  • Proven experience working with multidisciplinary agile teams and external delivery partners.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and relationship-management skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in plain language and influence at all levels.

What sets you apart

  • Experience working in the New Zealand public sector or other regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with All-of-Government ICT standards, cloud policies, and privacy and security expectations.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure & AWS).
  • Exposure to data-driven or AI-enabled solutions, including responsible and ethical use.
  • Experience in a Scaled Agile environment with an interest in using AI to enhance delivery and SDLC practices

The annual full-time salary range for this role is between $170,000 -$185,000 depending on skills and experience.
