JOB DESCRIPTION: COMMERCIAL MORTGAGE BROKER / ADVISER

The Good Broker | Mount Maunganui (Office-based with flexibility) | New Zealand

We’ve built a strong residential and refinancing business, and now have consistent commercial deal flow ready for the right adviser to own.

The Good Broker helps Kiwi homeowners and business owners get more from their money, now and into the future.

We're a growing New Zealand brokerage built on clear, client-first advice, no jargon and no pressure. We're looking for an experienced commercial broker to own that space and build it into something bigger.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a dedicated commercial seat with genuine autonomy.

You'll take the lead on every commercial deal that comes through the business, warm flow we're already generating, manage those clients end-to-end, and grow your own book alongside it through your referral networks and direct outreach.

You'll have the freedom to run your own pipeline and the backing of an established brand and client base behind you.

It’s an ideal role for an ambitious adviser or banker who knows commercial lending inside out, enjoys getting stuck into complex deals, and wants to build something they can call their own while being well rewarded for the results they achieve.

WHAT YOU'LL FOCUS ON

The core of this role is commercial lending, with an emphasis on:

  • Commercial property; purchases, investment, and owner-occupied
  • Development and construction funding
  • Business and asset finance; business purchases, cash-flow / term lending, and asset & equipment finance

Commercial clients often have residential lending needs too. You'll look after the residential side of these relationships where it suits you - or partner with one of our residential advisers to make sure the client is fully looked after.

DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial property, development, and business lending clients end-to-end
  • Structure and write complex commercial deals: commercial property, development and construction finance, business purchases, asset and term lending
  • Take on commercial deal flow allocated from the business and manage those clients as your own
  • Look after the residential lending needs of your commercial clients: either writing the residential lending yourself, where appropriately qualified, or partnering with one of our residential advisers
  • Source and convert your own leads through referral networks, professional relationships and direct outreach
  • Conduct needs analysis, structure deals, and prepare applications across bank and non-bank lenders
  • Build credit memorandums and documentation packages for complex and non-standard scenarios
  • Liaise directly with lenders, BDMs, solicitors, valuers and accountants to progress files
  • Maintain a clean front-to-back workflow, from client meeting through to settlement and ongoing file maintenance
  • Keep compliant, audit-ready client files that meet FMCA and Code of Professional Conduct obligations
  • Keep the CRM pipeline accurate and up to date

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Must-have

  • 5+ years’ NZ commercial lending, banking, broking or financial advisory experience
  • Strong commercial credit writing and deal-structuring skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex lending clients end-to-end
  • Confident owning a pipeline and progressing deals through to settlement
  • Strong understanding of NZ bank and non-bank commercial lender policy
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication

Highly regarded

  • Main bank commercial experience
  • Existing referral network or proven ability to generate new business
  • Current Financial Adviser registration or ability to become registered
  • Experience across asset finance, business finance and/or development funding
  • Existing industry relationships with accountants, solicitors, valuers or lender BDMs
  • NZ Certificate in Financial Services Level 5 or accepted equivalent

LICENSING & CERTIFICATION

You’ll need to be, or be able to become:

  • Registered on the FSPR as a Financial Adviser
  • Engaged under The Good Broker’s licensed FAP
  • Qualified with the NZ Certificate in Financial Services Level 5, or able to complete this prior to or shortly after starting
  • Able to meet The Good Broker’s compliance, disclosure, advice process and file-quality standards

Industry body membership, such as FANZ or another relevant professional association, is preferred.
