Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory.

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Phlebotomist to join our Patient Services Department in a casual role based in Wairau. As this is a casual position, hours will vary based on service requirements and operational needs.
This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a supportive clinical environment where you will play a key role in delivering high quality specimen collection services that directly contribute to patient care and diagnostic outcomes.
You will work as part of a professional and collaborative team, providing a calm, caring, and efficient service to patients while ensuring the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- The key tasks include blood collection, responsible for handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, and tissue, and preparing specimens for transportation.
- Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.

- Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation.
- Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure.
- Respect for always ensuring patient confidentiality and in all matters.
- Good computer skills.
- Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Technician is
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
