- Sun, sea, and solid teamwork – sound like your thing?
- Hands on role, based at Seaview Marina, Lower Hutt
- Opportunity to work with passionate individuals and a supportive team
Seaview Marina is owned by Hutt City Council and operates as a Council Controlled Trading Organisation with the flexibility of a commercial business. Known across the industry as a modern, safe, and well-serviced marina, we cater for vessels ranging from trailer boats through to vessels up to 24 metres in length.
We offer some of the most extensive hardstand and haul-out facilities in Wellington for both commercial and recreational craft. Our focus is on delivering responsive, value-for-money services in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our customers and marina community.
We’re now looking for a practical, motivated Dockhand to join our team and help us continue delivering excellent service and maintaining our marina to a high standard.
About the role
This is a hands-on, physically active role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in maintaining safe and tidy facilities. As a Dockhand, you’ll support the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the marina by:
- Carrying out marina grounds maintenance including gardening, weed control, and general site presentation
- Removing debris and materials from marina waters and surrounding areas
- Conducting regular dock walks to identify and respond to maintenance issues
- Assisting with general marina, building, and infrastructure maintenance
- Supporting rubbish collection and marina cleanliness activities
- Checking vessels to ensure they are safely and correctly moored
- Assisting with hardstand operations and vessel lifting activities from time to time
- Supporting the Dockmaster and wider marina team with operational activities as required
- Monitoring marina conditions and responding to operational, environmental, or safety risks
- Assisting with emergency response activities where required
- Supporting a strong health, safety, and environmental culture across the marina
This is a full-time role and may involve occasional after-hours or weekend work depending on operational requirements.
About You
You’ll be someone who enjoys practical work, works well in a team environment, and has a proactive attitude. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience in general maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, or a similar hands-on role
- Practical problem-solving skills and a willingness to get stuck in
- A strong awareness of health and safety practices
- The ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
- Good communication and customer service skills
- A clean driver’s licence
- An interest in marine environments or boating operations
Experience working in a marina, outdoor, or marine environment would be an advantage, but full training will be provided to the right candidate.
Why join us?
At Seaview Marina, we’re passionate about creating a safe, professional, and welcoming environment for our customers and staff. You’ll be joining a hardworking and supportive team where your contribution genuinely makes a difference every day.
Partnering with Hutt City Council, we’re committed to investing in our people, supporting development opportunities, and creating a positive workplace culture.
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
