The New Zealand Qualifications Authority is seeking an Evaluator to join the Wellington-based team within Approvals and Accreditation, in the Quality Assurance Division.

The Approvals and Accreditation business unit is part of the Quality Assurance Division (QAD) within NZQA. QAD plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and quality of non-university qualifications and programmes across Aotearoa. We're focused on learner wellbeing, system performance, and the capability of tertiary education organisations.

The Approvals and Accreditation business unit approves and accredits education organisations. As we implement the Integrated Quality Assurance Framework (iQAF) we take a risk informed approach to approvals, informed by TEO capability and maturity. We manage relationships, provide quality assurance advice, and publish guidance to support education organisations in the tertiary and vocational sectors.

Mo te turanga | About the role

Our main relationships are with Private Training Establishments, Polytechnics, Industry Skills Boards, and Wananga. Approvals and Accreditation also work with schools, kura and government training organisations.

We evaluate a range of applications including new PTE registration, NZ qualifications, assessment standards, programme approval and accreditation, consent to assess, programme change, degrees, and micro-credentials. The applications vary depending on the team:

  • New Private Training Establishments (PTES) Team
  • New Zealand Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) Team
  • Qualification and SSBs Team
  • Large PTEs and Government Training Establishments (GTEs) Team

He ahei au | What you'll bring to the role

We are looking for people with NZ tertiary education sector experience, strong skills in qualification development or curriculum design, programme and work-based training delivery, education management and/or educational quality assurance.

Strong analytical and decision-making skills will enable you to establish the quality of applications and how well they comply with NZQA rules. Your excellent communication, relationship management and quality assurance skills will enable you to work well with education organisations to achieve quality outcomes for learners.

It is essential that you can engage effectively with Maori, aligned with NZQA's values. NZQA supports all staff to set individual development goals for learning te reo Maori and has a range of development opportunities available.

You may currently be working in an Industry Skills Board, Polytechnic, Wananga, University, registered PTE or other education provider, or a government education agency.

A qualification at level 7 of the NZQCF relevant to the requirements of the position, or equivalent experience, is required.
