Sitting in the Three Waters Unit the Commercial Operations Team provides performance management and commercial services across the maintenance contracts, ensuring best practice in contract management. This is an opportunity to be part of a step change in driving the best commercial outcomes for Three Waters.
About the role | Ko te mahi nei
We are looking for two Maintenance Auditors who can bring a sharp eye for detail, strong technical knowledge, and a collaborative approach to ensure our infrastructure maintenance meets the highest standards.
In this role, you’ll be at the centre of ensuring our maintenance contracts deliver what they promise. Working closely with contractors and internal teams, you’ll provide independent assurance while fostering a positive, solutions-focused approach.
You’ll
- Conduct field and desktop audits to assess compliance with maintenance contracts and standards
- Evaluate contractor performance against KPIs and management plans
- Provide expert advice and guidance to Team Leaders and Contract Supervisors
- Deliver clear, high-quality audit reports with practical, actionable recommendations
- Track and follow up on audit findings to ensure improvements are implemented
- Contribute to strengthening and evolving the Three Waters audit framework
- Build strong working relationships to support collaboration and issue resolution
About you | Ko Koe Tēnei
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a balance of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. You’re someone who can analyse complex information, communicate clearly, and influence outcomes while maintaining strong relationships.
We’re Looking For
- At least 6 years’ experience in auditing, including investigation work involving contractual requirements
- Strong technical knowledge of water, wastewater, and stormwater network operations
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
- Confidence working in busy, high-volume environments with competing priorities
- Strong influencing skills and the ability to navigate differing viewpoints
- A relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. business, accounting, law, or similar) and auditing training

- Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
- Position - Permanent, full-time
- Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
- Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $81,227 to $90,252 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
