About the Role (your why)
We’re looking for two Payroll Compliance Consultants to join our Payroll Product team (one based out of Auckland, New Zealand and the other based out of Sydney, Australia). In this role, you’ll be a trusted advisor working closely with our product, development, and customer success teams to ensure our Payroll product stays compliant with evolving legislation and regulations. You will apply your specialist payroll knowledge to interpret complex payroll legislation, lead impact assessments, translate regulatory requirements into actionable product specifications, and help maintain Datacom’s reputation as a trusted, compliant payroll solution across the regions we operate in.

What you’ll do
At the moment, as a Payroll Compliance Consultant you will be focused on:
- Monitoring, researching, and analysing payroll legislation, tax law, superannuation regulations, and industrial instruments.
- Leading end-to-end legislative impact assessments and developing mitigation plans.
- Providing clear, actionable compliance guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Triaging compliance requests, prioritising them against product roadmap requirements, and lodging business cases for resourcing.
- Collaborating with Product Managers and Analysts to translate legislative requirements into functional specifications.
- Reviewing UX designs and workflows to ensure they meet legislative requirements.
- Participating in sprint reviews and product demonstrations to validate compliance outcomes.
- Developing and maintaining compliance documentation, including release notes and compliance matrices.
- Acting as a subject matter expert on payroll compliance and contributing to industry consultations and regulatory submissions.

What you’ll bring
Required experience
• 4–6+ years of payroll compliance or operations experience, ideally within a software vendor, fintech, or technology company.
• Proven ability to interpret and implement complex payroll legislation in New Zealand and/or Australia.
• Experience collaborating with product or technology teams to translate legislative requirements into system functionality.
• Background working with Agile development teams and methodologies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to have
• Experience supporting payroll compliance across both Australia and New Zealand.
• Recognised payroll certification from an approved body (e.g., TAPS or NZPPA).
• BAS Agent registration (required for Australia-based candidates undertaking BAS-related work).
• Familiarity with tools such as GitHub, ADO, Confluence or similar platforms.
• Experience contributing to regulator working groups or industry submissions.
