(The maximum appointment for this position is 110% of range, $129,804 depending on skills and experience)
About the role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
This is a rare opportunity to combine strategic advisory with hands-on business analysis and data delivery in a role that directly supports New Zealand's food safety system.
While the formal title is Senior Business Adviser, this role operates as a Senior Business Analyst with a strong Power BI and data focus. You will play a key role in shaping how data is used across New Zealand Food Safety to support financial planning, inform decisions, improve performance, and strengthen reporting capability.
This role offers a broad and varied scope, combining core business activities with project-based work. You will contribute to continuous improvement, working across the business unit to deliver better processes, insights, and outcomes.
Working closely with colleagues in Corporate Services and across New Zealand Food Safety, you will operate at the intersection of business strategy, stakeholder engagement, and data analytics, translating business needs into clear insights and practical solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Lead business analysis activities, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and stakeholder engagement
- Deliver high quality financial analysis and insights to guide planning and inform external consultations with key stakeholders
- Improve how data is used to support financial planning, reporting, and decision-making
- Drive evidence-based decision-making through high-quality insights
- Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve data flows
- Contribute to building enterprise reporting capability across the organisation
About You – Mōu
You may come from a background as a Senior Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or Insights Analyst and be looking to broaden your skillset by gaining exposure to advisory work, organisation-wide reporting, and cross-functional initiatives, while building toward more strategic level work.
We're seeking someone who brings
- Proven experience in business analysis, including requirements gathering and stakeholder engagement
- Intermediate to advanced Power BI capability, including dashboard development and data modelling
- Experience working with large datasets and multiple data sources
- Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders
Ideally, you also have:
- Experience in financial analysis, planning, or cost recovery environments
- Knowledge of process improvement and automation opportunities

Reporting to the Manager Regulatory Support & Cost Recovery Management, you'll be part of a high-performing and collaborative team that delivers real impact across New Zealand Food Safety.
The team brings together a mix of Business Advisers, Senior Business Advisers, a Senior Quality Analyst, and Principal-level expertise, creating a strong environment for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
