This role provides regulatory, technical, and administrative support within the Building Control function. The position is responsible for managing building-related enquiries, processing Project Information Memorandum (PIM), Small Standalone Dwelling (SSD), exemption, and low-risk building consent applications, reviewing building documentation and supporting technical information, and supporting Building Control operational activities within an accredited Building Control Authority environment.
The role also supports customers with application requirements, lodgement processes, and Council systems, including Objective Build.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to building and regulatory enquiries from customers, builders, designers, and industry stakeholders.
- Assist customers with application requirements, lodgement processes, and Objective Build systems.
- Undertake preliminary vetting of paper-based applications for completeness and advise customers on online lodgement processes.
- Process PIM, SSD, exemption, and low-risk building consent applications in accordance with legislative requirements and Council procedures.
- Undertake preliminary technical review of building plans, specifications, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate regulatory records and support statutory processing activities.
- Support Building Control operational, accreditation, and continuous improvement activities.
Desired Skills And Experience
About you
- Experience managing customer enquiries and providing technical support within a professional, regulatory, or building-related environment.
- Ability to interpret building plans, specifications, technical documentation, and consent-related information.
- Understanding of building consenting processes and legislative requirements.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Competent computer literacy and ability to learn new systems.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Experience within local government, regulatory, or Building Control environments.
- Knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Code requirements, and relevant technical standards.
- Understanding of PIM, exemption, SSD, and low-risk building consent application processes.
- Knowledge of Objective Build or similar consent management systems.
- Rapid Building Assessment (RBA) training or experience.
- A recognised building industry qualification aligned with Regulation 18 competency requirements under the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
