Mō te tūranga | About the role

  • Ensure communications plans are in place for our significant programmes and projects, and aligned with the work of the wider organisation.
  • Use storytelling skills to develop engaging content for print and digital that ensures complex issues are communicated simply and clearly, and the great mahi we’re doing is heard loud and clear across the region.
  • Manage programme-related media enquiries and write proactive media releases, as well as prepare spokespeople for high-profile media interviews.
  • Cover council committees, as required, to identify stories as well as potential issues that need front-footing with media.
  • Assist, when required, with managing public information during emergencies.

  • We’re looking for a senior practitioner who thrives on delivering communications solutions for complex, high impact programmes and projects.
  • You’re comfortable in agile working environments and able to work autonomously.
  • You’re a natural strategic thinker and your excellent relationship management skills enable you to align diverse stakeholders behind a shared story.
  • It’s a given that you can use the right tools and techniques to drive reach, clarity and consistent messages across print and digital channels. You have a track record of delivering successful multi-channel campaigns. Managing media is in your repertoire too.

Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience

  • Degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
  • Minimum 6 years’ relevant experience within a complex environment.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in managing media relationships, and issues of reputational risk.
  • Exceptional political awareness and skill in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues (including bi-cultural sensitivity).

  • In this role you’ll be part of an in-house Communications and Marketing section, which includes design, digital channels and social media.
