The opportunity - Te tūranga

As News Producer reporting to News Editor, you will be responsible for creating compelling, accurate, fair, and balanced news bulletins for the Breakfast show. You will be providing leadership and direction to a team of producers, reporters, and presenters, ensuring the delivery of high-quality daily news content across both broadcast and digital platforms. The role also serves as a senior leader within the breakfast team, driving editorial excellence and collaboration.

Your focus will be on

· Help manage the on-air broadcast of Breakfast news bulletins; adjust elements for time, late breaking stories, technical failures and other changes.

· Have a good sense of news, able to identify the big stories of the day and be able to deliver them to a Breakfast audience.

· Handover to (and support) Planning Producer, Senior Set Up Producer and EP Breakfast.

· Be editorially strong, legally proficient and ensure upward referral to EP Breakfast for contentious or unclear issues.

· Help compose (write, edit and sub) a rundown for the half hourly news bulletins within the Breakfast programme.

Enjoying an early morning start is essential for this role and it is based in the Auckland newsroom Monday-Friday.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for

· Strong experience in broadcast journalism and production.

· Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.

· High level decision-making skills.

· Excellent organisational and project management skills.

· Proven editorial skills and knowledge of media law.

· Good general knowledge across industry.

· Good judgment and problem-solving skills.

· Focused, and performs well under pressure.

· Able to work with deadlines.

· Ability to guide, help and have trust of presenters and staff on daily/weekly basis.

· Experience in managing the logistics of programme productions.

· Demonstrates good general knowledge/likes news.

· Maintains a good general knowledge and a keen awareness of local, national and international events and across daily news developments.
