Dominion Salt is New Zealand’s leading salt manufacturer, supplying essential products across agriculture, food, industrial, water treatment and specialist markets.

We are looking for a practical, commercially minded Sales Manager to strengthen our customer relationships, grow our regional presence, and support Dominion Salt’s continued leadership in the New Zealand market.

This is a field-based role with a strong focus on customer retention, market development and identifying new commercial opportunities across regional New Zealand.

About the role

Reporting to the Commercial & Technical Manager, you will be responsible for building strong relationships with customers, distributors, rural supply businesses and commercial users.

You will be in-market, visiting customers, understanding their needs, identifying opportunities, and ensuring Dominion Salt remains the preferred supplier across key regions and customer segments.

This role will suit someone who enjoys being out on the road, having practical customer conversations, and working in a business where relationships, reliability and service really matter.

Key responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Achieve new sales and market development opportunities across regional New Zealand.
  • Manage customer retention by proactively identifying concerns, risks or competitor activity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with rural supply businesses, distributors, merchants, agricultural customers and commercial users.
  • Promote the value of Dominion Salt’s local supply, product quality, reliability and customer support.
  • Gather useful market intelligence, including customer feedback, pricing pressure, competitor activity and regional opportunities to off-set competition.
  • Work closely with internal teams across sales, supply chain, production, technical and customer service.
  • Support commercially sound growth while protecting long-term customer relationships and margin.

About you

You will be someone who knows the New Zealand agriculture sector inside-out and is confident building relationships across rural, farming and agricultural supply networks.

You will understand how farmers, rural merchants, distributors and agricultural customers make purchasing decisions, including the importance of reliability, price, product availability, service, seasonal demand and long-term supplier relationships.

What matters is that you are credible in front of rural customers and understand the practical realities of operating in the New Zealand agricultural market.

You will bring:

  • Strong knowledge of the New Zealand agriculture sector, rural supply networks and regional customer base.
  • Proven sales, territory management, account management or customer relationship experience in an agriculture-related environment.
  • Existing understanding of rural merchants, distributors, farming customers and regional buying behaviours.
  • Confidence having commercial conversations with customers where price, supply reliability and product performance are key decision factors.
  • The ability to identify customer risk, competitor activity and new market opportunities early.
  • A practical, down-to-earth style that builds trust with farming and rural customers.
  • Strong planning, follow-up and reporting discipline.
  • Confidence working independently in a field-based role.
  • A full driver licence and willingness to travel regularly across regional New Zealand.

You will be commercially astute, resilient and proactive, with the ability to represent Dominion Salt professionally while strengthening our presence across key agricultural and regional markets.
