Our client is looking to hire a business-focused Senior Project Manager to join a high-profile, in-flight programme. You will operate in a complex, fast-paced environment with high public, ministerial, and stakeholder interest. This is a Wellington-based contract role till the end of January 2027 with a possible extension.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery & Transition
- Provide proactive oversight and ensuring continuity, quality, and delivery against programme objectives
- Monitor progress and deliver regular, high-quality reporting for Ministers, governance groups, and senior leadership
- Manage risks and issues, maintaining the risk register and escalating appropriately
- Ensure strong financial oversight, including expenditure tracking and forecasting
- Oversee third-party contracts and delivery partners
- Lead programme closure activities, including completion of closure reporting
- Support independent evaluation processes and ensure findings are captured and actioned
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned and review processes
Future Programme Design & Delivery
- Lead end-to-end project management for the next programme, from scope definition through to implementation planning
- Develop delivery plans covering workforce design, recruitment, training, and programme model refresh
- Lead procurement of third-party providers and establish delivery partnerships
- Ensure operational readiness across all aspects of programme delivery
- Provide strategic input into future programme locations and infrastructure requirements
Governance, Reporting & Ministerial Support
- Prepare briefings, reports, and governance papers
- Support the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO) with escalations and decision-making processes
- Ensure alignment between programme delivery and emerging legislative requirements
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, delivery partners, and external agencies
- Act as a key point of coordination across government, providers, and programme leadership
- Support communications and engagement activities to enable programme success
Resource & Delivery Management
- Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure effective delivery
- Monitor performance, manage dependencies, and optimise resource allocation
- Track project progress and outcomes, escalating risks and issues as required
