Senior Information Management Advisor

Transpower New Zealand

Transpower owns and operates the National Grid, which sits at the heart of New Zealand’s economy. We transport electricity from where it is generated to large users and local networks that deliver it to homes and businesses nationwide.

About The Team

The Enterprise Information Management team provides information management (IM) governance and support across Transpower.

This includes developing and maintaining our corporate IM framework, and managing the systems and services that underpin how information is created, stored, accessed and protected - from Microsoft 365 through to controlled documents, engineering drawings and offsite storage.

The opportunity

You’ll join a collaborative team of corporate and engineering IM specialists, working across the business to improve how information is structured, managed and used.

This is a hands-on role that blends governance expertise with practical delivery. You’ll work closely with the Enterprise Information Manager to evolve our IM framework, while partnering with teams to embed good information practices into everyday ways of working.

You’ll act as a trusted advisor, and you’ll also be close to the detail - helping teams get real value from Microsoft 365 while ensuring information is managed in line with public sector obligations.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll play a key role in lifting how information is managed and used across Transpower. This includes providing practical advice, supporting teams to use our systems well, and identifying ways to improve consistency, accessibility and compliance.

Your work will include:

  • Providing expert advice on information management, governance and compliance
  • Supporting teams to get more value from SharePoint, Teams and related tools
  • Improving IM practices including classification, metadata, retention and lifecycle management
  • Designing and delivering training and guidance that builds capability across the business

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be someone who builds strong working relationships across a complex organisation and knows how to bring people with you.

You can translate information management requirements into practical, workable solutions and adapt your approach depending on the audience, whether that’s facilitating a training session, working through a problem with a team, or advising a senior leader. You take a pragmatic approach to improving how information is managed and used, focusing on what works in practice.

To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in information management within a large or complex organisation
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand public sector IM requirements, including the Public Records Act and Privacy Act
  • Practical experience working with Microsoft 365 tools (SharePoint, Teams, Power Automate) to support information governance and business processes
  • Understanding of information practices such as classification, metadata, retention and lifecycle management
  • Experience translating business needs into practical IM solutions and embedding them into business processes
  • Confidence designing and delivering training or guidance to a range of audiences
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience in engineering or infrastructure environments, or with complex technical information, would be an advantage but is not essential.
